Visual analysis essay

Assignment:
Select one to three still images from fine art, advertising, and/or mass media (please, no work by friends or relatives) to describe and analyze in a 5-10 paragraph essay that focuses on your own interpretation of the images.
I do not have any preferences about the kinds of work you choose to write about, except that it needs to be complex enough for you to have something interesting to say about it. Move beyond ideas that are cliché, obvious, or simplistic.
Images should share a common theme so that they may support your focused thesis statement.
Images should be copied and pasted into your essay (near the area where they’re being discussed) and should have captions underneath them that provide citation information, such as who painted a particular piece of artwork, name of the artwork, etc.
Click on the “Examples of Acceptable Visuals” link below to view examples of visuals that would be good for analysis. Of course, you may find visuals of your own, but your visual should communicate a specific message, just as these do.
Also, browse through the information given on the “Additional Resources” link below to see more about writing a visual analysis essay and citing images in an essay.

First – Briefly describe what you see on the album cover, paying attention to colors, shapes, images, text, if any, etc.
Then answer the following questions about your visual:
1. What does this visual say about the musician’s style?
2. Why did you choose this album cover over any others from the same artist?
3. What is your favorite thing about the album cover?
4. Do you feel that the cover goes with the songs included on the album?
