“Understanding and Evaluating Research: A critical evaluation of two research articles. (Advanced Diploma in Nursing Year 3 – Cohort: September 2009) Course: ADNS Mental Health”

This presentation (see appendix 1) will attempt to critically evaluate two research articles, the first being: Administration of medication in the acute mental health ward: Perspectives of nurses and patients. (Duxbury J.A., el al. 2010) The second article used will be: Patient narratives: The potential for patient-centred interprofessional learning? (Blickem. C. & Priyadharshini. E. 2007). In an effort to highlight the benefits and deficits of both, the assignment will outline the research methods used and aim to provide a clear understanding of what the authors intent were. To aid in the critique of the articles the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme or CASP tool (Public Health Resource Unit, 2006) has been used to help the evaluation of the research articles.
