In todays society, pets are becoming ever more popular. Much evidence has
been put forward to suggest that owning a pet can have many psychological benefits. This research has been applied to helping those with psychological problems, such as those in psychiatric care or those with disabilities, and has led to the development of a new therapy technique known as Animal Assisted Therapy. However, the benefits of pets are also seen in the non-clinical population. This essay will evaluate the evidence which suggests pet ownership boosts psychological well-being, and will also look at how this has been applied to helping those with psychological problems….(short extract)
