On Dec. 8, 2014, the Province of Ontario introduced legislation that will allow it to begin design on a provincial pension
plan.
PART I – The Mechanics of the ORPP (10 marks)
Outline the features and describe in detail the characteristics of the ORPP. What type of plan is the ORPP?
Include in your answer what Ontario employees will be required to pay into the plan and what the contributions will be, the
mechanics of the plan, the payout of the plan, and how the plan will be invested, et.
Be very specific in your answer and provide as many relevant details as you can find.

• Etc., etc.
PART II – The Public Policy of the ORPP (5 marks)
Research and describe what type of individual this plan will benefit as the plan gradually matures, and what type of
individual this plan may not benefit.
What has been the early, initial reaction to the ORPP? Include positive and negative feedback. Has there been any opposition
to this proposed pension from any lobby groups online or in the social or conventional media?
Outline any potential negative implications of the ORPP on specific groups or the economy as a whole.
PART III – Impact of the ORPP on YOU! (5 marks)
Based upon your research in Parts I and II and assuming you are working in Canada when the ORPP is initiated, tell me whether
or not you, personally, would want to invest in the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. (Assume for the purposes of this
question, that enrollment is not mandatory and is voluntary). Explain your choice fully.
