The European Convention of Human Rights was drafted under the auspices of the Council of Europe and established in 1949 as a result of the atrocious treatment of people during the Second World War. It was thus a result of the war and one can argue that without this war there would be no convention. The convention was implemented because there was a need to protect human rights. The rights in question are mainly covered by articles and under the convention the articles vary from one which reads the High Contracting Parties shall secure to everyone within their jurisdiction the rights and freedoms contained in the convention, to article fifteen which is derogation. The Human Rights Act was introduced in 1998 and was hailed as the most significant statement of human rights in domestic law since the 1689 Bill of Rights….(short extract)
