+1 862 207 3288 Both Sigmund Freud and Carl Rogers believed in the idea of a hidden personality but viewed this concept in very different ways. In this essay I will discuss some of the central assumptions of these perspectives and compare the nature of their theories.
Freud and Rogers were, first and foremost, therapists and it is therefore not surprising that what underpins the theory of both perspectives is the knowledge they gained through therapeutic experience. Both used the analysis of their patients as a basis for assumptions made when discussing their ideas on behaviour, motivation and thought. These theories leave themselves open for criticism due to a lack of scientific process and for the acceptance of the patient’s own evaluation as evidence on which to base propositions.
