A new client has made an appointment with you to discuss the option of you to become her

personal trainer. The prospective client is a female 28 years old and a little overweight with

no previous strength training experience. The prospective client has specifically explained

she doesn’t want to do strength work as she has been told that it will develop her muscles

and make her “bulk up” and become very big and heavy. In her quest to lose weight you

understand the need for some strength training in her program and must work out how to

convince her that her understanding of the effect of strength training is a misconception.

Write a 200-300 word response (3 paragraphs) that you could use to help your prospective

client gain better understanding of the value of strength training. Use the following as a

guide to help with your response. You must provide at least 1 reference from a trusted

source.

Paragraphs:

1. Should include information relating to why her thoughts on strength training are a

misconception. Provide evidence to show it is not true and back this up with 2-3

references to articles or information (70-100 words)

2. Explain the real value of strength training and how it will actually help her lose

weight and tone up. Include in this paragraph some mention of how strength

training influence hormones in women positively (70-100 words)

3. Explain how you will monitor her program and provide feedback to show that

strength training will not make her big and heavy. Provide some detail on how often

you will reassess and what you will measure to help her with feedback (70-100

words)

 Used at least one reference related to content

 Logic and presentation of the argument was evident

 Response is of a sufficient length, is readable and showed a sound level of writing
