My main understanding of person-centred counselling is the use of the 3 core conditions of Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR), Empathy and Congruence, which I will go into more detail later in this essay. Whatever the reason the client seeks counselling for, it is basically for self-improvement and self-fulfillment and with the core conditions being present in the session, it makes the client feel validated, actively listened to, important, un-judged, accepted for who they are, self-assured, comfortable, relieved and empowered. It is important for the client to feel all of these.

It is essential that the three core conditions are present and offered in a counselling, session for therapeutic growth and movement. If the client does not receive the above conditions from the counsellor, it would be difficult for the client to move forward….(short extract)
