The stories we have read share many elements. Choose two stories and write a well-organized response paper that answers the following question:

What element (just one) do these two stories share and why is it significant? In other words, what does this shared element reveal or express?

Elements to address might include:
• Setting
• Character
• Theme
• Narration
• Narrative technique (shock ending, epiphany, plot twist, flashback, etc)
• Style (the way the story is told)
• Symbolism (a symbol is something concrete that signifies something abstract. Ex: red rose=love)

Essay Structure
Your essay should be roughly 3 pages, double spaced, and should include:
• An introduction that makes a claim about the element that the two stories share and its general significance.
• Body paragraphs that analyze this element with specific examples from both stories.
• A conclusion that summarizes the significance.

Reminders:
• Title your paper! And “Response Paper” won’t suffice. Make sure that your title speaks to the main idea in your essay.
• Proofread, proofread, proofread. Do not press Print until you have carefully read your paper (out loud) and have fixed all of the typos and grammatical and spelling errors you can find.
• Good writing is clear writing. Your goal is to express your ideas as clearly and specifically as possible.
• Enjoy the discussion. Trust your analytical abilities.
