“Caribbean female-centered households or matrifocal families have been blamed for a range of social ills from juvenile delinquency to the production of drug addicts.” (SOCI1002 UWI Course Materials p.278.) Using the relevant theoretical perspective, discuss this statement in relation to the traditional and emergent role of families in the Caribbean.

Introduction
Open Statement: In recent years it has been stated that female centred families children cause more harm to society than nuclear two parent families. Could this be deemed true?
Background Information: In the Caribbean two parent nuclear families are considered necessary for stability of the social structure (Parsons and Bales, 1955). Studies have shown female centred households are perceived as incapable to carry out the functions of normal families.
Thesis: During this essay I will discuss the traditional families, analyse the metrical family and Caribbean female centred households, and explain the relevant theological perspective. And lastly describe how these types of families will cause a range of social ills.
