Reflective essay – Myself as a learner

The aim of this essay is to reflect on a critical incident which I feel was a pivotal learning experience for me. A critical incident is any incident which has happened and is the interpretation of the significance of an event (Tripp 1993). They can be positive or negative events. Either way, reflection and analysis of critical incidents are widely regarded as a valuable learning tool for nurses. (Clouder 2000)

Reflective practice has many definitions. Jarvis (2003) suggests that reflection is not just thoughtful practice but a learning experience. It has also been described as a way through which a practitioner can view and focus on ones self (Johns 2000). Yancey (1998) advocates using reflection because it is theorized in a coherent way.
