Abstract – This paper aims to provide an introduction to Asynchronous Transfer Mode and Frame Relay. Topics covered include what they are, how they work, optimal usage, advantages and disadvantages of each as well as a brief comparison of the two. These topics are covered as these are two protocols that are have or are gaining rapid interest and are prominent technologies that are replacing traditional protocols of switching.
