The relationship between Social Work and the Law is often considered to be very complicated. Both Social Work and Law are products of our society and they can be linked together to form an effective tool to improve social welfare. Law on its own though influences almost everything society does. For instance, Law can be used to conserve power structures, identify societys behavioural norms and mould attitudes and behaviour for the best.

The law provides regulations for Social Work. It does this by holding Social Workers accountable for their actions and by giving Social Workers the legal powers and duties they need in order to their job properly….(short extract)
