You will write a paper of 750+ words proving something about your selected poem.

· Read the work.

· Think about it.

· Read it again and yet again. You are going to prove something about the work you are analyzing.

Fill in Bodynotes. Review what you have written making revisions.

· Decide on an argument you are going to make in relation to the work. Select significant quotations in relation to that argument. Your paper will prove something about the poem focusing on ONE of its elements.

· Interpret/Explain what you are saying about the poem keeping in mind the readers’ need for more information and clarity as to the point(s) you are making.

· Discuss your selected quotations showing how they illuminate the point(s) you are making.

· Make sure the ideas inthe 3 or more body par. are related in some way. Make sure that you are following the pattern set up in Bodynotes in that you have a PLOT SUMMARY in par. 2. Always keep in mind the reader’s ignorance.

· Work hard to avoid simply retelling the story as your paper. Your job is to make an argument in your paper showing what you understand about your poem.
