• These cells are found both in primary and secondary phloem.
• Their secondary wall is thickened with simple or partially bordered pits.
• They provide protection and mechanical strength.
• They are distinctly seen in jute, flex and coconut.
• These fibers are useful in preparing ropes, coarse cloth etc.
