INSTRUCTIONS
The first paper is your perspective on Christianity and its relationship with the environment. The paper should be an evaluation of Christianity’s historical (and modern), philosophical and theological perspectives regarding man and the environment. The topic is rather broad and open ended. The point of the paper is for you to show that you understand the historical relationship between Christian culture and philosophy and the environment, and that you explore the scriptural foundation that should guide a modern Christian’s attitude and actions towards the environment.
The paper should be double-spaced and the body at least four pages in length. A minimum of 3 quality sources (non-course materials) is required. If possible, please avoid using Wikipedia and personal blogs as sources for factual information. MOST IMPORTANTLY – Sources MUST be cited in the text and also included in a bibliography section at the end of the paper in APA format. Please re-read your syllabus for more details and to view additional web sources I have provided to assist you. Finally, Common Paper Assignment Errors link under our Class Resources heading on our “home page” will demonstrate the point deduction for the most common errors I have encountered with these assignments. (BIG HINT – NOT FOLLOWING APA FORMAT WHICH INCLUDES TITLE PAGE, ABSTRACT, AND REFERENCES IS THE BIGGEST ERROR FOR MANY STUDENTS & WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR SCORE).

Papers
The body (which does NOT include the title page, abstract or works cited section) of your paper at least four complete pages in length. A minimum of 3 quality sources (non-course materials) is required. Do NOT use Wikipedia and/or personal blogs as sources for factual information. Your format MUST be APA (that does include margins, spacing, and font size) and if you are unfamiliar,
http://www.apastyle.org/ and http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ are excellent sites for assistance. Very important to NOT forget, sources must be cited in the text and also included in a works cited section at the end of the paper. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. The second paper is a topical paper discussing a topic of your choice. The paper’s requirements are the same in size and scope to paper #1, and should include your personal reflections on the viability, causes, ramifications, impacts, etc. of your particular topic. Suitable topics are anything related to Environmental Science, even if they are not covered in the scope of this class. Examples include but are not limited to: global warming, current American dependence on fossil fuels, peak oil, renewable energy technology, sustainable agriculture, organic farming, human population growth, air pollution, oil spills, historical environmental disasters, green party, European environmental policies, economics and the environment, etc.
Other resources you will find useful:
There are other resources available on the course homepage. There is a news forum, which I will use to make announcements. There is a “Course Discussion” discussion forum, which is where you can ask me any questions you have regarding course content, due dates, assignments, etc. Please post questions in this forum rather than emailing me a question regarding the course. If you have a question, there is a good chance that someone else in the course has that same question, so post it here so that everyone can learn from my answer (and so I don’t have to answer the same question 10 different times). There is a link to the “www.masteringenvironmentalscience.com” on the home page for this course. This website is also available through your textbook. To access it, follow the instructions in your textbook. You will have to register using an access code. Once you have access, you will find news articles, links to websites, answers to text questions, and other resources that will benefit you during this course.
