In preindustrial society there was no real concept of the home. The home was characterized as the familys dwelling and where the function of a number of social and economic activities, production, welfare, religious worship and education occurred. The family also served to function the wider community by taking in the sick, the elderly, and other disadvantage individuals to facilitate the stability and social order in society.
