Narrative Paragraph

Write a Narrative Paragraph

Make sure the first sentence of your paragraph is a topic sentence that shows the reader where the event took place and your reaction to or opinion about the event.

Focus upon a moment or brief period of time. A paragraph on your trip to Paris would be too much for the length of this assignment, but a paragraph describing something that happened at the Louvre would be great.

Use descriptive language. Your paragraph should create a clear picture in the mind of the reader.

Use some of the transitional expressions for narratives. After the jump, scroll down to “Time.”

Don’t forget to conclude your parapraph, and this concluding thought will be the point of your narrative. In other words, the concluding thought will show how the event taught you or changed you in some way.
For the narrative paragraph that you will write for this module, choose from the topics for narrative paragraphs.

1. One minute of a football game (or other sporting event)
2. Your first day at a new job
3. Your best or worst dating experience
4. An encounter that changed your life
5. Your most embarrassing experience

Make sure that you use the MLA format for name/class/date information.

Don’t forget that your last name and page number go in the header.

Double-space your work.

Give your paragraph a title.

Keep the 5 Options in mind as you write. (Very important)

Don’t use “you” or “your” in your paper. For information on why “you” and
“your” are inappropriate in academic writing, see the FAQs.

This assignment asks you to draw upon personal experience; therefore, don’t use outside sources. Use your own words.
