In the mid 20th Century, people who needed care in the community were served only be the welfare state and where promised, universal equitable care for all. This care was given free across the board and no choices were given. Some people were happy with the ideals of a cradle to the grave welfare state, but others preferred autonomy and choice which was not available, so you either had to accept what was available or have nothing. However, due to the development of mixed economy care, some services such as community care are available on the open market through private, public and voluntary organisations….(short extract)
