DIRECTIONS
Please read and then follow these directions carefully
- Choose a grade level (Kindergarten through 8thGrade)
- Choose a subject that you are most comfortable with…. (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math)
- Research and find the materials that you would use to teach this lesson (book, handouts, worksheets etc…)
- Create a lesson plan that supports the concepts that you will be teaching in this activity
- Create a song (or find a pre-composed song) that supports the lesson
- Adapt the song activity for two of the following subject areas:
Social Studies
Language Arts
Math
Science
- Your PowerPoint presentation should include an outline (sample lesson plan) showing how your song will be integrated into the lesson plan.The song including the lyrics that you will be teaching us and any other material or activities you would be using should be included.

Instructional Objectives:
Students will: 1 *identify rhyming words in the story
2 *Create a story from each students experience to go along with a musical event
3 *Arrange the phrases or events in sequential order.
Sequence:
- Assemble the students in a large group. Read the story “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss. Allow the students to view the pictures
- Students will watch the recording of the story with musical accompaniment and sound guide. Follow up discussion: What did they learn from this story.
- Introduce the students to the melody of “Twinkle Twinkle” and sing it together. The first time we sing the song we will sing the original words to the song. The second time we sing we will use the words from the story “Green Eggs and Ham”
- Students will then choose their favorite rhymes from the book to include in their song
- Students contribute to creating new rhyming lyrics for the song. Write and draw their contributions on a chart with the multicolored markers
- Sing the new version of the song have students sing along.
- Add rhyming words to rhyme word chart.
Follow Up Activity:
Science Lesson “Creating Green-
- The students will blend blue and yellow paint and create an abstract textured collage to go along with the story
- Working with food coloring the student will add colors to eggs as we scramble (cook) together.
- Ask the students to select two songs from a list tof age and classroom appropriate popular music. Play the two songs that receive the most votes.
- Have the students listen to the song first with their eyes closed and then again while drawing pictures of rhyming words on art paper.
3 Allow the students 10 -1 5 minutes to develop their own songs using the rhyming words from an age appropriate classroom book to describe their activity and the changes they observed in the color blending
4 Have the students gather in a circle and share their new song and artwork.
