Lateral Meristem

Lateral meristem is found on the lateral sides of growing stem and root. It is responsible for the formation of secondary tissues. The organs increase in diameter as a result of the activity of lateral meristem during secondary growth. Example of lateral meristem are:
1. The primary intravascular cambium,
2. The secondarily produced intervascular cambium and
3. The cork cambium in flowering plants.
