Interview those around you, who know you best – family/friends/co-worker at least 2 people you feel comfortable with asking and hearing their response.
1.)Start by listing what you feel are your communication strengths to share with your chosen person. List at least 4.
2.)Ask if they would agree or disagree with what you have listed and if they have any other strengths you did not list.
3.)Then list 2 communication weaknesses that you feel you would like to work on. (e.g. I like to talk on top of people because I expect them to keep talking – I know culturally this can be rude)
4.)Ask if they would agree or disagree with your weaknesses and if there is one weakness you need to work on the most.
5.)Then journal 2 pages about what you learned from talking to those who know you best. What are your communication strengths and weaknesses. Did you agree or not with their assessment and did it differ base on the type of relationship you had with the interviewee. What is one communication skill you would like to strengthen this quarter (it doesn’t have to be a weakness).
