Task LO2: Understand the ways in which health and safety requirements impact on customers and the work
of practitioners in the health and social care workplace. What you must do – Effective assessment is
the key to care planning that produces positive results (QCS, 2015). A care plan is an agreement
between a service user and a health professional to help the service users manage their health day to
day. It can be a written document or something recorded in your patient notes. Knowing that you have
good understandings of care planning and risk assessment, in preparation for the admission of new
residents, your organisation has given you the responsibility to carry out suitable risk assessments
which details the real risks present within the care setting.

2.1 Analyse how information from risk assessments informs care planning for individuals and
organisational decision-making. Consider identifying and analysing key principles of care planning and

Task LO3: Understand the monitoring and review of health and safety in the health and social care
workplace. What you must do. Measuring the health and safety activities of a care home is an important
way of identifying where improvements are required and what actions to priorities. Hence, the
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to put in place arrangements
to control health and safety risks. That is, assessments of the risks to employees, contractors,
customers, partners, and any other people who could be affected by an organization’s activities.
Organisations are also required to record significant findings in writing (if there are five or more
employees). Thus, it is imperative to have arrangements for the effective planning, organisation,
control, monitoring and review of the preventive and protective measures that come from risk
assessment. Given this context, your manager has asked you to coordinate a systemic monitoring and
review of health and safety in your care home. You will need to gather information from staff and
evidence of good practice that will be presented to inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive.

3.1 Explain how health and safety policies and practices are monitored and reviewed through audit of
risks; review of practice; learning from experience; updating of policies and procedure in your own

practices in your health and social care workplace in promoting a positive health and safe culture:

3.3 Evaluate your own contributions to placing the health and safety needs of individuals at the centre
of your practice. In this section you must use Gibbs reflective cycle on reflecting on your own
performance in placing the health and safety needs of the service users in your practice such as
responsibilities; compliance; training; practices; interactions with individuals, groups and agencies.
