Futures of Transportation (Bio and Evs)
Answer the questions below from your own perspective:
1) Based on the overview and videos — describe, your best Vision of the future, what our world might look like with a fully
mature ‘Bio Energy’ shaped world in 2030?
In doing so — avoid generic abstract statements!! — connect and build bridges to the concepts from this week’s materials on
bio for energy and industrial applications. (Negative points if you talk only about corn ethanol!) Try to build connections
across politics (rural / farming; global geopolitics) – technology – consumer adoption – et al. There is no ‘right’ answer
here. We are trying to test your ability to describe a realistic vision of this transition.
2) What are your thoughts on the transition towards ‘electric’ vehicles from the internal combustion engine?
Do you believe that we are in a ‘hype’ phase now and likely to disappoint ourselves in the long run? Do you believe that this
transition is real and sustainable? Where do you put this transition on the Gartner Hype Cycle (What phase of the curve; Peak
of Inflated Expectations, Plateau of Productivity, etc..).
3) Using the STEEP categories listed below, given the issue of the electrification of long haul trucks describe the possible
external implications. For example, you might say for Technological that the mass production of electric motors might
encourage combustion motor manufacturers to specialize in small, lot custom motors instead of mass producing diesel power
plants.
