Foreign Affairs Investigation Portfolio Directions
Citizens have a responsibility to learn about foreign affairs and government policies.
Such information can help citizens make informed decisions about voting, U.S.
participation in national and international organizations, traveling, and consumer
choices. In turn the government has the responsibility to keep citizens informed about
policy decisions and U.S. responses to foreign affairs. Although some information may
be protected for national security reasons, executive departments such as the
Department of Defense and the State Department do make information available to the
public. The Internet has become an important means for providing citizens with up-todate information.
In addition to government resources, citizens in a democratic nation also have the
benefit of freedom of the press. This means that different news agencies and
organizations publish information and editorials regarding foreign policy.
In this assignment, you will use a government resource as well as a news agency
resource to learn more about a foreign affairs issue that is of interest to you.
