The excretory functions of liver of frog are as follows.
(1) The NH2 separated by deamination is converted to urea with liver.
(2) It excretes calcium salts and cholesterol along with the bile.
(3) It disintegrates haemoglobin that comes to the liver as a result of haemolysis of R.B.C. The liver also converts the disintegrated haemoglobin into bile pigments-bilirubin and biliverdin which are excreted along with bile.
(4) Poisonous and badly smelling gaseous substances like indole, cresole, sketole and carbolic acid are produced as a result of incomplete oxidation of proteinous faceal matter by the bacteria. These substances are brought to the liver where they are decomposed to form urea.
(5) Ammonia is produced as a result of protein digestion. It is very poisonous and hence brought to the liver and converted into urea.
