Step 1. Select a problem or nursing intervention that relates to pediatric nursing on your clinical unit. The topic must be approved by the clinical faculty and be relevant to your experience on your assigned unit
Why did you choose the topic and how does it relate to the patient population on your assigned clinical unit?
Step 2. Formulate a well-built question: Include why you chose this problem or patient. Use the acronym PICO to formulate the question. For example: Is this use of heparin in maintaining patency of an intermittent intravenous infusion better than saline.

I=Intervention or the issue of interest (use of heparin)
C=Comparison Intervention or comparative group (use of saline)

Step 3 Select four journal articles from peer reviewed nursing journals that address your above topic. The articles should have been published within the last five years, relate to the topic and be at least 3 pages in length. Read, summarize and prepare an annotated bibliography for each of the chosen articles. Please provide your clinical faculty copies of the articles chosen. The following points should be addressed in your paper:
• Annotation: Write a descriptive, evaluative summary of each article that addresses the central theme and scope of the article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, and (d) explain how this work increases the body of nursing knowledge and promotes evidenced based practice. Each annotation should be approximately 150 words in length

Step 4: Apply the evidence to your patient or unit. How does the research and knowledge you learned from these readings compare to your setting, patient or problem?
