This essay provides several outlets for exploring the issues present in Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel Sandman: World’s End.

The essay:
For this assignment, you must construct an argumentative thesis to present your point about an issue present in the novel. To better understand this topic, consult Janet Gardner’s Reading and Writing about Literature, reviewing the critical perspectives discussed in ch. 9. Then incorporate a critical framework as you explore one of the issues present in Gaiman’s novel. Options include but are not limited to the following:

Marxist criticism:
How does Gaiman present the economic forces of the city?
How does Gaiman address socioeconomic difference?
cultural studies:
Despite their popularity, graphic novels are still considered on the fringe of literature. How might you assert that graphic novels like this one are worth critical consideration? This topic will require that you reference at least one other graphic novel along with your other two critical sources.
formalism:
How does Gaiman use the narrative technique of storytelling to reinforce a particular point about relationships, truth or what he refers to in the first chapter as “the reality storm”?
Additional topic ideas must be presented in writing (via email) in advance of the first draft due date (4/7).
