Instructions for Creating a Plaid in Photoshop
1) Set up a 5X5 inch file in landscape format, resolution 150,RGB mode
2) Use Rectangular Marquee to make a rectangle. Fill it using the paintbucket tool, or click >Edit> Fill>Foreground Color’’, and use the move tool to copy a filledrectangle and repeat until you have 3 rectangles of different colors touching each other, standing vertically side by side.
3) Use the rectangular marquee again to carve out another rectangle where the stripes go in the opposite direction. While selected click ‘Edit’>Define Pattern. Name your pattern ‘Vertical Stripe’ >OK. (This is the warp).
4) With stripes selected, click Edit> Rotate 90 CW.
5) Click ‘Edit’ > Define Pattern, name ‘Horizontal stripe’‘, >OK’. (This is Weft). Then discard page- marquee & delete
6) New File> Select All> Edit> Fill> use Pattern > ‘ Custom Palette’ from pull down menu.
7) Select ‘Vertical stripe’ pattern (previously defined). Workspace now filled w/ this pattern. (7A- Add Horizontal’ layer- layer2)
8) While still in Select All, click Edit>Fill>use Pattern again. Select Horizontal Stripe previously defined. Change Opacity to 50%>ok.
9) Flatten before saving: In Layers palette: Click little flyout button (top right) > Flatten Image
10) Open Illustrator >New File> Edit copy & paste each colorway, make, name, and fill squares filled w/ all the colors in your plaid under each plaid swatch. This is your ‘Pitchsheet’.
