Drawing on what you have learned from the Making Social Lives DVD and Learning Companion 1, outline how some benefit and others lose on a street that you know.

Who benefits and who loses is quite a broad question as examples of these could be found in many strands of society; age, gender, race, nationality, etc.  This essay will cover a few examples and compare and contrast with City Road.  The street that will be looked at is the High Street of a small town in North Wales called Porthmadog.  Porthmadog is a coastal town which relies quite heavily on tourism.  The High Street runs through the middle of the town and has a mix of local and national shops.  Some shops lie empty, others need painting and others are thriving and whilst it is a tourist town, there are not a lot of tourist shops.
