Introduction
The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the social and emotional aspects of childrens learning. The idea of childrens well-being is increasingly at the heart of current policy, practice and investigation/research in many disciplines. Many mental disorders of adulthood have their origins in childhood risk factors. The fresh millennium has brought a new focus in the UK, on childrens well-being, and in the last decade there has been a significant step change. Well-being as a concept has crept into policy agendas. Every Child Matters agenda which was launched in 2003, focusses on improving the well-being of children and in 2007 it became a key part of government policy. Increasingly, attention is focused on child well-being with reports of increased mental and emotional health needs in children.
