In this assignment I will address why the principle of supporting those who are being cared for, in having a voice and being heard is important and sometimes difficult. I will explore issues raised by Howard Mitchell who has researched Lennox Castle Hospital; its history, and the impact of long-term experiences of institutionalization, using Goffmans four characteristics of a Total Institution. Comparing the lives of ex-residents Margaret Scully and James Lappin, looking at how they lived and worked there.  Did they express their views with confidence and was their voice heard?
