For this project, choose one of the major topic areas in the course, and concentrate on a specific issue that may have a critical impact on one or more of the criminal justice system components (e.g. Problems with Communications or Motivation of Personnel, etc.). You will locate and evaluate at least three (3) current research studies (within 5-10 years) regarding your chosen topic area. In your paper, you are to explain how you would improve your chosen topic issue as it applies to a particular component of the criminal justice system. You must cite and reference at least seven (7) scholarly sources for this paper.

This paper must be written in the APA writing style (6th edition) format. Submit the paper as a MS Word document in the appropriate drop-box. The paper (not including the title and reference pages) should be approximately 5 pages (1750 words) in length, double-spaced in 11-point Arial or 12 point Times New Roman font.

THEREFORE, this Project Paper is more about your ability to comprehensively “critique” (i.e., Evaluate) your chosen research studies. So,
this major research paper must have an “Introductory” paragraph setting forth the purpose of your paper, what you will discuss, and a very brief summation of the findings that you discovered from your three research studies.

Next, move into the “body” of your paper. Here you will introduce your topic choice within the context of seven scholarly sources, including at least three major empirical research studies impinging on your topic choice. You must evaluate or critique the key points of these research studies; That is, were your research choices – “applied” research studies that can be used to influence CJ decision makers or policy makers? Explain why or why not? Can you research be replicated with certainty and effectiveness or not (e.g. Problems with the mandatory arrest for domestic violence, for example – Minneapolis Domestic Violence Experiment)? Critique the strengths and weaknesses of the research findings as they relate to your topic choice; discuss the research’s methodology, its purpose, and its conclusions, even if the findings were inconclusive. What were some areas that could have been improved upon both with respect to methods and their findings regarding their applicability to real world CJ organizations? Merely positing a single finding or statement regarding each research study is not an “evaluation” of the research, and, therefore, does not provide much about the research’s scope and its possible validity for real-world application.
