Create an Interpretive Guide about the 606

Interpreting the Landscape Paper Project
Your assignment is to create an interpretive guide about either the 606 or Northerly Island. Your final paper should include:
• a clear thesis in the introduction identifying the thesis/theme of the guide
• identify a minimum of six and maximum of nine stops on your tour of the space
(at least two should address the design of the site, one should address the history, and one
should address the specific ecology of the site)
• research that supports your thesis that draws from at least three different sources, including one
primary source
• footnotes or endnotes AND a bibliography formatted using Turabian/Chicago style
• a map and a series of captioned images corresponding to your stops presented in the form of an
appendix at the end of the paper
Also required is a bibliography of five texts
Your final paper is due Friday, October 20 and must include a title, a clear introduction identifying the theme of your tour and six to nine stops along the way, demonstrable research supporting your thesis question, footnotes or endnotes, a bibliography, and a map and images in the form of an appendix. Title pages, footnotes, bibliography and images do not count toward the six full-page minimum of text. This is worth 70% of your final paper grade.
Final presentations will be presented on Friday, October 27 in class. The presentation will be delivered in a Power Point format with at least two slides and must be submitted on D2L before midnight on October 26. The presentation paper should be approximately 500-650 words (about two pages) and will focus on two of your interpretive stops. You will be using the information from your final paper, though the text might substantially change for the presentation. This is worth 10% of your final paper grade.
You will need to do research to complete this paper. While the majority of your research should be from printed material (books and journals), please note that the ONLY acceptable websites to use are scholarly sources, such as electronic journals or other material accessed via the DePaul library research databases. Be sure to clearly cite your sources for any text that was not generated by you in footnotes or endnotes and include a properly formatted bibliography to avoid any charges of plagiarism. We will use Chicago Style to format your bibliography and footnotes, a style guide is posted on D2L.

The final paper should be no shorter than six full pages and no longer than eight full pages of text, written in twelve-point font and double-spaced with one-inch margins on all sides. The final paper will be evaluated equally on the quality of your essay (content) and the quality of your writing. Use proper grammar and sentence structure, and make sure to PROOFREAD your paper.
All of the elements of the paper assignment must be submitted to D2L Dropbox before midnight on the day that they are due. I will not accept any emailed papers. Any paper submitted late will be marked down as noted in the syllabus (one letter grade per week it is late, one half-letter grade for each day or half-week it is late).
I will be writing about the 606 and the gentrification that came along with the development of the 606. I will be highlighting the different price ranges of home throughout the 606, starting from the east side all the way down to the west side of the 606. I will also be focusing on the amenities that are given through the 606 and the relation it has with the existing neighborhoods around it. This is will be including bike paths, art and parks found on the 606. This also will deal with me touching on what was there before the 606 and what impact has the 606 on the community. I will be stopping at various parks along the park. I will also stop at statues seen along the path as well as making various stops along the 606 to document the disparity between homes while you keep heading west.
