Assimilation

The nutrients absorbed from the ileum are carried to the liver through the blood in the hepatic portal system. In the liver the excess of glucose is absorbed by the hepatic cells. With the help of Insulin this excess of glucose is converted to insoluble animal starch-glycogen and stored in Liver. Some amino acids and very slight amount of lipid are also stored in the liver cells. The tissue cells take up required amounts of amino acids, fatty acids, glucose, etc. from the blood (i) for constituting their protoplasm and (ii) for oxidation during tissue respiration.
