In this assignment I am examining the new Palace of Westminster and exploring themes of tradition and dissent within its architecture and furnishings. I begin by discussing the choice of Gothic architecture and why it was chosen instead of the recent past trends of classical architecture. I examine if it is purely a religious choice or if the choice has larger connotations. The larger connotations being: a more complex form of symbolism. I identify what traditions gothic architecture represents and what it means in the layering of gothic and classical styles within the Palaces architecture.
I then move on to the interior of the Palace. I examine the distinctions between interior decoration and the architecture.
