Essay Topic:
Transnational crime is a critical security challenge in the Asia Pacific region. With reference to a specific case study (ie. narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering) discuss (a) the strategic implications and(b) the regional approaches to combating transnational crime.
Essay requirements:
The essay should contain an introduction at the beginning, and should end with a conclusion. In between the introduction and the conclusion lies the main body of the essay.

The main body of the essay should be made up of a series of arguments. Each of these should be linked to the one following as the essay develops. The arguments should be located in the main body IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE, from most important to least. Remember, you are NOT telling a story (or writing a narrative history): YOU ARE critically analysing the essay topic. If you follow this pattern, the main body of the essay should show an ordered development of argument.

The conclusion: each of the main arguments set out in the well ordered main body should turn up as an element, a part of your conclusion. You should have ALREADY established the validity of each argument in the main body. Now it remains to stitch together these arguments in relation to each other, building a coherent, clear and decisive conclusion. The conclusion does NOT need to be long. It should touch on each of the elements of the main body (the arguments). It should, very obviously, draw conclusions about the essay topic!!

The introduction: this should set out where the essay is going. You should be able to show what you will be attempting to argue. This can be done by neatly touching on each of the main points of argument, in the order you will deal with them in the main body. The introduction should NOT be lengthy: like the conclusion it should exhibit clarity, be precise and be tightly constructed.
