The transition from novice to professional nurse is rarely linear and its progression is influenced by a number of internal and external factors. There are a number of theories about the process of transition which recognise common stages which the ‘novice to nurse’ will likely experience.

*Compare and contrast two of these theories

*Describe common stages of transition

*Discuss recommendations for supporting the novice to achieve role attainment
