The Romantic Don Juan

Theme: The Romantic Don Juan

As we have read and seen in class, Hoffman’s short story changed the notion of the DJ character.

The German Romantic author reconsidered and reinvented DJ, leading to the character’s

transformation from a Classical to a Romantic figure. A Romantic DJ is especially evident in

Zorrilla’s Don Juan Tenorio. Taking into account both literary works, describe how Zorrilla

represents in his drama the changes in perspective that were earlier developed and presented in

Hoffman’s short story. You will want to focus only on the second part of Don Juan Tenorio.

Be sure to analyze the texts and to contextualize your arguments with examples from the play.

For this paper, outside research is not expected nor necessary, I want your analysis of the text.
