ASSIGNMENT
All writing is essentially argumentative. In other words you provide your opinion and spend quality time ?proving? your thesis. You do this by using data and evidence which supports the thesis.

Write an argumentative essay based on one of the prompts below, feel free to pick either the following selections, 1-3, towards composing the essay. Also, it is imperative to choose the poems noted below the instructions. As these are what the instructor requires for the assignment.

1. Analyze one of the poems on the syllabus. In doing so, focus on the theme of the poem, and how the details of the poem help to define and develop theme.
2. Compare two poems that we have read together. Make a claim about the poems? differing or similar use of formal elements (meter, rhyme, formal conventions, etc.) and how this changes the poems? effects. Limit your focus to one or two formal elements.
3.Create your own topic: write about any aspect of literature (meter, rhyme, rhythm, diction, voice, speaker, etc.) and apply it to at least one poem. You may choose to write about one of the pieces we?ve read in class or another. Up to you. ** Note – if this option is selected, please select a poem from Walt Whitman’s “Leave of Grass,” which is a collection of the author’s poems.

Make sure that you use MLA documentation.
