The Future of an Illusion
Project description
Question:
Once again, Freud contrasts his theory with the theory of revolution that he now explicitly identifies with both France and Russia. Yet, he still maintains that the
“psychological ideal” is “the primacy of the intelligence” over “the dominance of prohibitions” (p. 61). How does he resolve this?
In the final chapter of the book, Freud addresses the notion that the replacement of religion with another system could be an emotionally unsatisfying and therefore
less successful version of the same thing. How does he resolve this, and what do you make of this? Compare this solution with Marx, or another thinker that is more
appealing to you.
