The evolution of physical evidence collection and its place inside the court room in the 21st century

This topic I feel will illustrate a progressive map as a culture of where we have been, where we are, and ultimately where we will end up in regards to physical evidence collection and its placement in the judicial system.  Focal points I would like to highlight are laws of evidence, chain of custody, federal rules of evidence, and the two forms of physical evidence as it applies to rape and murder cases.
As a road map if you will, I will start with the importance of physical evidence to lawyers and how it came to be as it is today by using multiple scholarly journals via Columbia Southern University (CSU) library and the proscribed textbook Criminal Evidence.  Through research I will analyze and make note of important moments in time where collection of physical evidence played a critical role in determining the outcome in notable cases i.e.…O.J Simpson and, Casey Anthony.
The evolution of physical evidence collection and its place inside the court room in the 21st century is relevant to anyone to include myself with aspirations of becoming a police officer or some form of professional law enforcement. Understanding the history and the impact of evidence and the process on how to collect will become beneficial for years to come.
