Thesis Statement :
This paper will argue that 1920’s United States’ culture as presented in the Great Gatsby was dominated by wealth (money), celebrity and crime.

I- THEME : Wealth
Through different characters Fitzgerald, proves that: hunger for materialism or wealth leads to self-destruction.
• For Gatsby, the material world is somehow elevated to a spiritual dimension, and the acquisition of material objects becomes almost religious

• Does money bring happiness in The Great Gatsby, destroy happiness ?
Relationship between Gatsby and Daisy and MONEY
• What does Gatsby mean when he says that Daisy’s voice is "full of money?"
Does he mean this negatively?
Does this comment say more about Daisy or Gatsby?

Gatsby made his fortune through criminal activity, as he was willing to do anything to gain the position he thought was necessary to win Daisy
WEALTH AND MORALITY: those who are wealthy act as if there are no principles concerning the distinction between what is right and wrong.
They act as if they are above the law and engage in immoral behavior in their everyday life.
. In the book, immoral behaviors displayed by the wealthy include unfaithfulness, ambitious behavior, greed, cheating, lying and deception
