Test for lead in your environment

Test for lead in your environment

INTRODUCTION. Explain the purpose or objectives of testing for lead in your environment. State your hypothesis. For example, do you think you will have lead in your environment? One outside source should be cited in the introduction from a peer-reviewed journal. Wikipedia, or any other Wiki citation will not count towards this requirement.

MATERIALS/METHODS. List the materials that you will use to complete this experiment.

Materials supplied in the Lead Surface Test Kit:

o 2 test pads
o 1 eye dropper

EXPERIMENT. Describe all the steps that you plan to take during the experiment.

o Step 1: Cut each of the 2 test pads into 3 equal pieces, creating a total of 6 smaller test pads. You will test 6 common surfaces in your environment.
o Step 2: Use the eye dropper provided to add 4 drops of water on to 1 small test pad.
o Step 3: Do not oversaturate the pad. The test pad will have an orange color, which indicates that the pad is ready for testing.
o Step 4: Slowly wipe the test pad over the first surface you want to test for 2 minutes.
o Step 5: If the test pad or test surface turns pink, red, or purple, the test is positive—LEAD IS PRESENT. If the test pad or test surface has no color change, then the test is negative.
o Step 6: Repeat Steps 2-5 for the remaining 5 surfaces.

DATA. Record the results of this experiment. Note the presence or absence of lead.
