Strategy Report

Select a business which you find interesting This should be a single business, rather than a corporate portfolio of businesses.

Subsequently, write a report on this business? strategy, building on the five questions outlined below.

1. What have been the major changes in your chosen business? sector over the last few years, and what is your view of its future evolution?
2. How has your chosen business been responding to the changes in its sector?

3. How successful has its strategy been compared to its rivals (or other benchmarks)?
4. Moving forward, what strategy would you adopt as general manager of this business?
5. What challenges might you face in doing so, and how might you overcome them?

A good strategy report is characterised by two attributes (over and beyond the effective use of strategic frameworks covered in our course): solid and relevant data to support your assertions and a strong logical argument to tie your recommendations back to your analysis. Possible data sources include analysts? reports and sector studies (available through the library), and, in particular, interviews with the company. You may find it helpful to read Barbara Minto?s book, The Pyramid Principle: Logic in Writing and Thinking, (London: Minto Int?l). This is an excellent resource for enhancing your presentation and writing."
