Response to Hawkins
Comment in a helpful way (to promote learning) to the write up below, which is a fellow classmates personal worldview.
I think for some people, their world views exist only as perception of what they see and hear and not from experience. This could be defines as what they see on the TV or read in the media, which is a BIASED opinion. Not all individuals seek to have a worldly understanding or view of how other function in the world. I think that is the difference between someone constantly striving for more education with greater enlightenment, and someone who is satisfied with what their teachers taught them in K-12. We are not all seekers and searchers, by nature. For those of us that are, we have certain opinions about how we see ourselves intertwined with society and the planet we all inhabit. I shall share mine through the Kluckholn & Stodbeck "Value" Orientation test.
For me, the Kluckholn & Stodbeck "Value" Orientation test was very accurate and not surprising.
1. I feel that the basic nature of people is good. If we grow up in a home with no love or beliefs, we become susceptible to evil and an easy target. While some people have genetic issues, many of this can be treated with modern medicine or therapy (if you believe in such).
2. In my relationship with Nature, I believe we should live in absolute harmony with our Earth and all of its glorious surroundings. How can anyone deny the magnificence of nature and its power and wonder? The movie, Avatar comes to mind and how they lived in harmony with Nature.
3. When it comes to time sense, the present moment is everything! It is the only time you truly have an impact on! However, I do feel that you should think about your future and set goals to take you to the next phase in your life – but regretting the past and worrying about the future only tarnish the precious moments of the present.
4. The best mode of activity is DOING! We were not put on this world to sit around and observe. We were given legs to run and hands to build and fingers to touch. We are capable of so much doing, that if everyone DID SOMETHING – the world would be a different place today. While I am becoming the person I want to be, it take ACTION for me to get there. No one can get somewhere my merely ‘thinking’ about it!
5. I believe the best form of Social Relations is Collateral. We have friends and family for a reason! They are our COUNSEL. They are who we talk to when we don’t know what to do. People give us opinions, personal experiences, and teach us what they have learned the hard way. While I do not always consult with others on every decision I make, if it is a big one – I see guidance from friends and family. The African proverb stated that, "it takes a village to raise a child." I believe this is directly related to social relations in the world.
Wow, great exercise! I feel like I have developed stronger world views since completing this assignment. Looking forward to seeing what others write!
