You are asked to design an evaluation of the following hypothetical scenario. Use the Hoover text as well as the Research Methods Knowledge Base, drawing on the concepts of experimental designs, quasi-experimental designs, time series designs, non equivalent groups (you do not need to use ALL of these, but you do need to pick one and explain why you have made this choice).

‘Heartbreak fatal, researcher claims’ is the headline of a newspaper story that says that the stress from severe emotional trauma can lead to heart failure. The findings are based on a study of six heart patients who suffered symptoms such as fainting and irregular heartbeat but showed no evidence of heart defects or disease. All six, however, had experienced severe emotional trauma. This study also shows the episodes responded favorably to certain drugs such as beta blockers.

Part A). Critique this study: What would you change about this study? which leads to Part B). design a correlational study to test this hypothesis: “Heartbreaks are fatal.” Part C). design a quasi-experimental or experimental study to test the hypothesis: “Beta blockers are effective in treating heartbreak episodes.”

The Study on heartbreak fatal research, has been done, by many scientists and each of them more often find similar observations. In this newspaper, the research was carried out using a very small number of people who were observed. The study on six people was not enough to identify and conclude the study. A bigger number could have been used and a long duration to carry out the observation was to be put into place. The study was good but the research done was not enough to make a conclusion on the subject matter. If I were to redo the study, I would add up to the number of people to be observed. (Doctor, 2000)
A correlation study is testing the hypothesis: “heartbreaks are fatal.”
Heartbreak are fatal in reality as the act of losing a loved one makes one feel lonely in devastated which may even lead to the death of the person. In most cases, if a man loses the wife of the wife looses the husband they go through a certain emotional trauma that eventually leads to their death within a short period. These problems, have been observed and have shown that a high percentage die soon after his or her loved one. (Weseley, 2010) you’re not telling me how you will conduct a correlational study -3
Experimental study is testing the hypothesis, “Beta-blockers are effective in treating heartbreak episodes.”
Beta-blockers are used in treating heart conditions such as heart failure. They block the effect of the heart attack. A study was carried out on a person who had lost the bride in a road accident after the wedding. The groom went through a trauma and could not take it anymore. After talking to a friend, he was advised to use the beta-blockers for the treatment of his condition. Several types of blockers can be used as prescribed by a physician. These pills act to prevent that heart attack in a situation where one recalls what happened and in processes he suffered an emotion trauma. This trauma may result in heart failure. The hypothesis is correct since the beta-blocker pills are effective in dealing with heartbreaks. Beta-blocker erases the past memories and makes a person start afresh without the memories of his past. (Baumeister, 1994)
Ok, but you’re not telling me how you would conduct an experiment in order to test this hypothesis, which is the point of this assignment. For this experiment, do you divide the group into two groups? Why? Why not? What do you do specifically? Do you give one group a pill and another a placebo? How will you test this? You can rewrite this for higher points (and I suggest you understand the actual portion of the research design (read the research methods knowledge base for the research design week’s readings) in order to do well on your final project.
