Red Riding Hood

Assignment 2: One Modern Red Riding Hood (25 points) Carter, “The Company of Wolves” 1. Read Angela Carter’s version of the Red Riding Hood fairy tale. 2. Answer the following: Does Carter’s version radically depart from Perrault’s and the Grimms’, or does it basically resemble them? Write four well-organized paragraphs that answer this question–two paragraphs that address one radical departure in each paragraph and two paragraphs that address one similarity in each paragraph. Do not worry about having an overall introduction, thesis, or conclusion for this assignment. Simply work on analyzing similarities and differences and writing four solid body paragraphs. Build each paragraph around a strong topic sentence that announces the similarity/difference, and fill each paragraph with your analysis and evidence from the text. 3. Use MLA in-text citation for your evidence and include a an MLA Works Cited entry for the story. 4. Post in your group forum. 5. Respond to your fellow writers and tell them which specific evidence you found most convincing in their arguments. Purpose: This activity will help you practice working with comparison in literary criticism by working with two texts at once. This assignment also requires you to practice supporting your claims in literary analysis with textual evidence and to cite that evidence appropriately. Grading: I will grade this work based on how well you discern the similarities and differences among the texts, how well you support your answers with evidence from the text, how well accurately you follow MLA documentation guidelines, and how well you offer praise and constructive criticism in your responses to your peers.
