Paper instructions:
1. The minimum word does NOT include the following: bibliography, title page and references.
2. Paper should be on a critical examination and analysis of some issue concerning both race and racism.
3.all papers must include some rigorous conceptual analysis of the concepts of ‘race’ and ‘racism.’ [Conceptual analysis means more then simply pointing to the phenomenon of race and racism. Your papers should clearly distinguish when you are writing about the concept and when you are writing about the phenomena themselves.
4.Your paper should also include at least two scholarly sources beyond the reading covered in the course (either books or articles). Scholarly sources are generally found in published books in the library or peer-reviewed scholarly journals found in the library’s databases. Scholarly sources do NOT include the following: general information found on the internet, Wikipedia, dramatic movies or popular songs. While you may use such sources, they will not count toward your two scholarly sources.
5.These additional sources as well as the sources you use from the class should be properly referenced using one reference method from a standard writing style guide. (See the links in the assignment section of citation guidelines.) They should all also be included in a bibliography.
6. You could choice any topics relate with race and racism. And topics should be on a critical examination and analysis of some issue concerning both race and racism. Possible topics is list in following are just suggested topics you could choice.

Neo-racism:
–What is it? Does it exist? What is the evidence for its existence? What are
some common arguments against the existence of such a phenomenon?
–How does it differ from racism?
–What are some contemporary examples of it?

Race, Racism and Empire:
–What is empire and imperialism? Historically how have different forms of
empire forged ideas of race. How are these two phenomena related historically
and conceptually? How have empires been influential in forging types of racism?
–Is empire a thing of the past or does it still continue today in some form? Why
or why not?

History of Race and Racism:
–Ex. Dissenting voices from the racist views of 18th and 19th century.
Race, Racism and Science –Ex. 20th century science against scientific racism. (If you select this topic, you
must go well beyond anything you wrote for the 1st paper. Failure to do so will
result in a poor grade for your term paper.)
–Ex. Use of ‘race’ in 18th, 19th century and/or contemporary medicine.
Racial ideologies in the U.S. and Europe
–Ex. Influence of eugenics and/or social Darwinism on public policy/politics
historically and in contemporary society. (If you select this topic, you must go well
beyond anything you wrote for the 1st paper. Failure to do so will result in a poor
grade for your term paper.)
–Ex. Eugenics and the Holocaust (If you select this topic, you must go well
beyond anything you wrote for the 1st paper. Failure to do so will result in a poor
grade for your term paper.)

Types of Racism:
–Ex. Extremely racist regimes, intentional racism, etc. Such a paper should
Carefully delimit the conceptual boundaries and/or overlap between types of
racism; address the problem of conceptual vagueness of ‘racism’ in great detail
; and demonstrate knowledge of literature on racism outside the assigned
readings.

Racism and Recognition:
–Ex. What is the concept of ‘recognition’? Is it a useful concept for
combating racism? Arguments for and against.
Race and Gender
–Ex. Black/Anti-Racist Feminisms

Race and Gender:
–Ex. Specific policies that have or have had disproportionate race-related
effects. [E.g. voting restrictions]
Racial Identity/Anonymity and Philosophy of the Subject

Race, Class and Inequality:
–Ex. How have racial differences influenced the inequality of wealth and income
between specific nonwhite groups and whites.

Popular Culture:
–Some people claim that racism does not exist today.
–Argue against this claim by showing that racism in still exists in some form
within popular culture: within music lyrics; within some TV show; within a movie.
–The good paper will uncover some implicit form of racism that often goes
unrecognized and provides rigorous analysis of the phenomenon.
