Public hygiene observation

1) Public hygiene observation: Go to a mall foodcourt or a fastfood restaurant with kids and stand

in the bathroom 10-15 minutes (pretend talking on phone, brush hair, etc. so no one thinks you’re a

predator) and observe how many use the bathroom toilet, sinks, and how they open door. Write a

paragraph of your observations and email it to me.

2) Public Health article: Find a medical journal article on a topic that interests you. Write a

sentence or two about what interested you/surprised you most about the article and email it to

me. Please include bibliography reference and the article online link.

3) Public Health News: go to http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en.html website
A) Type “retail food establishment” in search box, select the top link for food service establishment

and read “The most recent news” articles. Comment briefly on each.
B) Also read 1-3 of all the “most recent news” articles under “Programs&Initiative” Tab at top in

each of the dozen subcategories. Write a sentence or two what interested you/surprised you most

about each article and email it to me.

You should be commenting on at least 16 total articles for this assignment. The public health

department does so much; I want you to broaden your awareness of their reach.
